HOLLYWOODGATE
The day after the US abandons Afghanistan, the Taliban immediately seize control of the CIA's military base in Kabul, also known as Hollywood Gate. The Taliban now find themselves in possession of the western world's most technologically refined aircrafts and weaponry. The Egyptian-born, now Berlin-based documentary filmmaker Ibrahim Nash'at captures the Taliban's new powerful position on film with astonishing access and intimacy. Over the course of a year, Hollywoodgate depicts the fundamentalist militia's transformation into a military regime.
Hollywoodgate had its world premiere at Venice film festival before going on to play Telluride. The film has been met with critical acclaim, with critics lauding the journalistic feat on display and its political acuity.
