No good men

Afghanistan, 2021, shortly before the Taliban’s return to power. Naru, the only camerawoman at Kabul’s main TV station, is fighting to retain custody of her young son. She has le her serially cheating husband, convinced there are no good men in her country. She is therefore caught off guard when the esteemed journalist Qodrat – handsome and considerate, too! – offers her a career opportunity. As the two criss-cross the city reporting on its last days of freedom, sparks fly and Naru begins to wonder: could there be a good man out there aer all?

The irresistible No Good Men opened this year’s Berlinale to rapturous response across the board. Director Shahrbanoo Sadat’s romantic comedy about life in Afghanistan is an unexpected, charming and – as the political upheaval unfolds in its riveting final act – absolutely urgent filmmaking. The European co- production No Good Men follows her critically lauded Wolf and Sheep and The Orphanage, both of which were darlings of the Director’s Fortnight in Cannes. this newest film of hers has had great buzz in Berlin and has sold exceptionally well internationally.
